NTC Highlights Girls’ Scholarship Recipients Each month, we will feature one of our scholarship recipients so you can get to know these inspiring young women from Kwala Secondary School. This month, we are introducing Chichi Ally, a Form 3 student at Kwala Secondary School, sponsored by the Hollander family from Newton.

Chichi’s favorite school subjects are geography, history, civics, mathematics, and biology. She would like to be a lawyer “if God wishes.” Born in 1992, she is the first child in a family of two and lives with her mother and younger brother. Her father died in 2007, “that day I can’t forget in my life.” Chichi’s mother cooks rice and beans which she tries to sell to make money for the family.
“Thanks Hollander family to help me about everything about my school. Wishing you success, and all the best,
Chichi Ally”

Update – July Exchange Trip to Kwala!
Eight people are traveling to Kwala this July on NTC’s first service exchange trip! We will stay in the homes of teachers from Kwala Secondary School, visit both Kwala Secondary School and Mahundi Primary School, with time out for a safari at Mikumi National Park. During the service portion of the trip, the group will participate in building nine new latrines at Kwala Secondary School. Currently, the school has only four toilets for 350 students, and none for the staff. Students frequently leave school because they are uncomfortable using the school toilets and sometimes do not return. Students from NTC Club at Newton South have been raising money to fund the project which will provide Kwala with eight additional student and one staff toilet.
Additionally, local artists Jackie Schon and Joe Liu will create a school mural at Kwala Secondary School. Kwala students have been invited to submit proposals in a mural designing contest at the school, and the submission with the most student votes will be painted on a large school building wall by Jackie, Joe, and students from Kwala.
Our trip is being organized through one of NTC’s partners – United Planet, a Boston-based organization committed to creating cross-cultural partnerships and providing volunteer-based travel opportunities around the world.
